Miriam is homeless, half-starved, and desperate when she meets Geoffrey Sherwood, who is disconsolate over the loss of his sweetheart, Valentine, to another man. He helps Miriam, they fall in love, and Miriam saves Valentine (who has decided to return to Geoffrey) from the wrath of her husband.
