SYNOPSIS

When Demetra, the daughter of Turkish rugmaker Halib Bey, expresses delight with a particular rug, Bey promises it for her dowry but later sells it to Osman, a dealer who receives Bey's consent to marry Demetra. While sightseeing in Constantinople, American millionaire Robert Van Buren rescues Demetra from thieves, and they fall in love. Although Bey orders Bob from their house, the romance proceeds through clandestine meetings in the rose garden. On the evening before the couple's planned elopement to New York, Bob is abducted by Osman's hired ruffians and imprisoned in a dungeon. Just before Demetra's wedding to Osman, she travels to New York, where her cousin introduces her to Bob's mother. Osman follows, and by inducing Demetra to search for the rug, traps her. He brings in a priest and has Demetra on her knees, when Bob bursts in and rescues her. He then explains his adventures after the abduction.
