SYNOPSIS

Duped into buying a stolen car from Foxy Monte, the gullible, kindhearted Alphonse Irving Goode is thrown in jail, where he becomes friends with fellow inmate Shifty Ed and then insists on paying to refurnish all of the cells. After their release, Alphonse invites Ed and his girlfriend, Shorty Sal, to a party, where Ed quickly recognizes Monte, despite the latter's British nobleman's disguise. Then, using his fake royal charm, Monte convinces Evelina, Alphonse's naïve daughter, to elope with him. Sal and Ed, hoping to repay Alphonse for all his kindness, decide to go after the runaways and break in on them just as Evelina is fighting off Monte's attempts to seduce her.
