SYNOPSIS

Young novelist Everett Hale refuses to consider leading actress Mavis Marberry for the role of a street waif in the play adapted from his novel. Piqued at his obstinacy, Mavis decides to "show him" and, donning a ragged disguise, meets the writer in a dance hall where she is posing as the waif Chicken Casey. Her realism deceives Hale, and he begins a well meaning campaign to rescue the wretched little outcast, which ends when he makes her the star in his play.
