SYNOPSIS

Mary Howard, deserted by her husband, Robert Mason, after a shotgun marriage, attempts to commit suicide by wading into a pond after first leaving her infant daughter with her aunt. Mary's attempt fails, and she enters life in the underworld as a prostitute. Later, Mason remarries and claims his daughter, but Mary, believing the girl to be a child of Mason's second marriage, resolves to wreak vengeance on Mason by luring his daughter into her house of prostitution. At the critical moment, however, the mother recognizes her child by a scar acquired as a baby and restores the girl to her ... +
