SYNOPSIS

Despite his wealth, financial magnate Thomas Chatterton finds his home life miserable. Overindulgence has spoiled his children, with the result that his son Joseph is a drunkard and his married daughter Anne has abandoned her husband and child to follow frivolous pursuits. Edith's gentle companionship cheers the elder Chatterton, and his children also feel the influence of the visitor. At first Joseph suspects Edith of designs upon his father's money, but after she prevents the liquor-crazed Joseph from stabbing his father, the boy resolves to reform. Similarly, Anne is saved from ruin by Edith's interference when the thoughtless Anne becomes involved with a crook posing as a society man. Thus, by spreading the gospel of love and self-control, Edith brings peace to the entire family and marries the reformed ... +
