SYNOPSIS

The Nelly Davis mine, owned by entrepreneur James Gresham, is coveted by Carson Baylis and Valance Chandler of the Consolidated Trust. When a damn bursts in Cobalt, Ontario, flooding the mine site, Valance's sister Alice seeks shelter in James's shack. The two make a crude raft and float to safety, and during their ordeal, they fall in love. Later, in New York, James and his partner, Andrew Martin, found the powerful Fidelity National Bank. Hoping to ruin James, Carson masterminds a run on the bank simultaneous with a strike at the Nelly Davis. James is Alice's guest at an anniversary ball in Newport, Rhode Island, celebrating her brother's fourth wedding anniversary when he hears the bad news.
