SYNOPSIS

Cornelius Brady, an unscrupulous broker, offers bank treasurer Robert Granger $100,000 to certify a worthless check for $700,000 after bank president Burton Temple has refused the check because of insufficient funds in Brady's account. When the transaction causes the bank to fail, Granger is sentenced to ten years in prison and Temple is indicted. Granger's wife Anne, under an assumed name, secures a position as Temple's secretary to prove her husband's innocence. When detectives hired by Brady uncover a letter that proves Brady's guilt, Anna destroys it, but after doing so, realizes that she loves Temple. However, she remains faithful to Granger, who escapes prison and tells her that he stole to provide her with luxuries. After Granger's mistress, Rose Fanchon, appears, Anna learns that the $100,000 was put in a trust for Rose, and that Granger made no financial arrangements for his family. When Granger is shot escaping the pursuing police, Anna is free to marry ... +
