SYNOPSIS

While visiting France, socialite Florence Lanham falls in love with Captain Sam McGinnis and marries him on a whim. When Sam is reported dead, Florence returns to New York, where she keeps her marriage a secret. Florence is on the verge of marrying wealthy William Arkwright when, unexpectedly, Sam appears in civilian clothes and embarrasses her with his flashiness. To teach her a lesson, he accepts a job as butler in the Lanham house. Mrs. Smythe, a young widow, is also attracted to Sam, and Florence, out of spite, decides to elope with Arkwright.
