Charles Butler, a demented artist, abducts live models and surgically remolds their faces, which inspire his macabre paintings. Jason Grant, jealous of irresponsible rock musician Scotty's attentions toward fellow student Janet Wells, provokes a fight which sends Janet and Scotty off together. On a deserted beach Butler strangles Scotty and abducts Janet. Marika Gold, a student in love with Jason, helps him determine Janet's whereabouts. Jason locates the artist's mansion, is captured by Butler's creatures, and escapes with the help of Janet, who has been hideously disfigured. Jason smashes Butler's face, flees the house, and is hospitalized following an automobile accident. He escapes police custody and returns to the mansion, where Marika screams at the sight of Jason's horribly disfigured face.
