SYNOPSIS

Town banker Solon Hammerhead threatens Aunt Abigail Prue with foreclosure on her Somerset, Massachusetts farm after she rejects his proposal of marriage. To save the farm, Sally Greenway, Abigail's adopted daughter, is willing to sacrifice her love for hired hand Joel Bartlett and marry Bruce Hammerhead, the villainous banker's son. Soon Tim discovers that Abigail's horse "Cold Molasses" is a born racer and enters him in the County Fair. To destroy Cold Molasses, who threatens to beat the Hammerheads' horse "Lightning," the Hammerheads set fire to Abigail's barn, but Tim comes to the rescue. Although Lightning comes in first, Cold Molasses is declared the winner of the race after Joel reveals that the Hammerheads rigged Lightning's saddle with an illegal battery.
