HISTORY

The film was released on 25 September 1927, preceded by an opening the previous week at the Rialto Theatre in Twin Falls, ID, where it was billed as Sodawater Cowboy, and on 1 October 1927 at the Castle Theatre in South Bend, IN, where it was billed as The Soda Water Cowboy. A review in the 4 November 1927 Motion Picture News attributed much of the protagonist’s success to “dumb luck,” and described the character as “boobyish in his love-smitten antics.” Many of the film’s humorous moments were attributed to the performance of co-star J. P. Lockney.
The National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) included this film on its list of Lost U.S. Silent Feature Films as of February 2021.
