At the age of 23, singer Cliff Donner becomes an overnight failure when his latest album proves unsuccessful. Although disillusioned with show business, he agrees to perform at a club for teenagers in Palm Springs, California. At the same time Hallie Rodgers, a pretty teenager, loses her job as a TV go-go dancer when she leaves her cage and starts singing and dancing before the cameras. Eventually the two young people are signed as a team by Tony Krum, a young, self-made rock and roll millionaire tycoon. Without telling Cliff, Tony arranges a publicity buildup whereby Hallie and Cliff will gradually fall in love while performing on TV within view of thousands of delighted teenagers. Everything works as planned until Cliff learns of Tony's scheme and quits the show. Cliff is persuaded to return, but he treats Hallie with cold indifference. Determined to prove that Cliff means more to her than a career, Hallie fails to appear for their biggest TV engagement. As Cliff is about to perform alone, he suddenly understands Hallie's motive, and leaves the stage to find her. Mrs. Miller, the cleaning woman, fills in for them and becomes an instant success.
