Along with the rest of the town, Fuzzy waits anxiously for the mail delivery being sent on the approaching stagecoach. When the stage reaches town, however, he learns that the mail has once again been stolen. Fuzzy's partner, Billy Carson, is surprised to learn that the thieves overlooked a gold shipment in favor of the mail and, together with Fuzzy, sets off to track down the outlaws. When the two men investigate an old mining camp, the bandits greet them with gunfire. In their hurry to escape, the bandits then throw the mailbag on the fire and ride away, but Fuzzy and Billy are able to retrieve it before it burns. Billy then examines the contents of the mail sack for clues. On the way back to town, Fuzzy and Billy stop at the Murrays' ranch to deliver some medicine for Mrs. Murray. Murray informs them that he received an assayer's report which states that his mine contains low-grade ore. When Murray decides to sell the mine to banker Frank Hayden, Billy stops him, saying that the assayer's report has obviously been faked. As Billy investigates further, he becomes convinced that Hayden has been stealing assay reports from the mail, then altering them to reveal unfavorable results so that the miners will sell their property for less than it is worth. The townspeople, however, are skeptical because Hayden has helped many of them with loans. Determined to get more proof, Billy and Fuzzy eavesdrop on Hayden and his men. After Hayden learns that Billy and Fuzzy have the stolen mail, he decides to frame them for the theft. Fuzzy plays into Hayden's hands when, unable to resist giving Jane Wright a letter from her sweetheart, he is caught with the stolen goods. Fuzzy escapes and later, he and Billy concoct a plan. While Fuzzy distracts Hayden and his men, Billy blows open Hayden's safe and the needed proof is found. As a reward, Jane kisses Fuzzy.
