Fred Blake avenges the death of his mother, who expires after a bandit's raid, and discovers letters in the dead man's possession revealing him to be the long-lost son of the wealthy Monroe family. Fred impersonates the son and is accepted by Mrs. Monroe and Olive, her daughter, though he is followed by a mysterious stranger who has witnessed his struggle with the real son. His arrival defeats the plans of lawyer Luke Baxter and his son Steve, who want to fleece Mrs. Monroe. Fred's bitterness fades, and he becomes interested in a Boy Scout troop as well as in Olive; but when honored for rescuing a boy, he confesses his deception and is arrested. Maurauders raid the Monroe home and kidnap Olive; but with the help of the Scouts and Silver King, Fred escapes, rescues Olive, and is cleared by the stranger.
