SYNOPSIS

Nurse Ruth Pomeroy secretly falls in love with mechanician Jimmy Cardigan when he is injured at a racetrack. On his recovery Jimmy accepts a dinner invitation at the Pomeroy home and there falls in love with Constance, Ruth's self-centered sister. When Jimmy leaves for the war, Connie accepts his signet ring and vows fidelity, but on the battlefield he waits in vain for letters while Connie amuses herself with Billy, an old flame. Ruth, learning of Jimmy's anxiety over Connie, writes to him, signing Connie's name. Returning blinded from the war, Jimmy does not know that Connie has deserted him, and Ruth assumes her place.
