His son, Eugene Fong, is in love with Mary, who in turn competes with Sadie, a reformed prostitute, for the love of Lee, a marine. Fong Kiang stages an attack on the mission and accidentally has his own son killed. During the attack Mary declares her love for Lee, and they embrace just as the mission is penetrated.
