Mae Carter, the niece of amateur entomologist Colonel Nutt, accepts an engagement ring from Robert, a wealthy young weakling. After Mae notices the muscular physique of Ben, the town blacksmith, she dreams that she is a cave woman. In the dream, Mae is abducted by a giant and rescued by Ben, who then defeats Robert in a fight. The next morning, Mae returns Robert's ring and plans to elope with Ben. After Robert appeals to the colonel for help, Ben is invited spend a month at the Nutt home. During a party, Ben and his pipe-smoking mother disgust Mae with their stupidity and crude table manners, prompting her to break the engagement and resume plans to marry Robert. However, Ben interrupts the wedding and carries Mae off to another town. Following a series of escapades, Robert rescues Ben and Mae from drowning in quicksand before he finally marries ...
