The Cigarette Girl was released on 8 July 1917. While reviews in the 30 June 1917 issues of Moving Picture World and Motion Picture News endorsed the film, the 28 June 1917 Wid’s argued that the plot was highly implausible.
An unrelated feature, titled Cigarette Girl, was released in 1947.

A young woman, who ekes out a livelihood by selling cigarettes and cigars in a restaurant, agrees to help wealthy young Money Meredith defend himself against a blackmailing scheme perpetrated by Mrs. Wilson and her husband. Although the cigarette girl loves Trot, a cabaret dancer, she agrees to marry Meredith to foil the blackmailers. Meredith's funds are transferred to his new wife, forcing the Wilsons to abandon their plans. Meredith soon awakens to the fact that he has fallen in love with the cigarette girl. Upon discovering Trot's despicable nature, she returns Meredith's feelings and their marriage becomes one of ...
