HISTORY

The upcoming release was announced in the 4 August 1917 Motography as a “decisive blow against birth control propagandists.” An article in the 25 August 1917 Moving Picture World noted that cast member Susie Light Moon was one of several Native Americans encamped at the Triangle Film Corp. facility in Santa Monica, CA, known as “Hartsville.” Her performance in the picture, particularly her reaction to being called a “savage” by one character, earned her a place in Triangle’s stock company.
Master of His Home was released on 12 August 1917, followed by openings on 22 August 1917 at the Great Northern and Palace Theatres in Philadelphia, PA, and on 31 August 1917 at the Ben Ali Theatre in Lexington, KY.
The National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) included this film on its list of Lost U.S. Silent Feature Films as of February 2021.
