On 14 Jun 1977, DV announced that principal photography was scheduled to begin 17 Jun 1977, with actor William J. Beaudine and production company World Amusement Film Corp. During filming, the 11 Jul 1977 DV reported that stuntman Victor Rivers died 8 Jul 1977, when a collapsed ramp caused his truck to overturn in a lake on the Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills, CA. Shortly following the 10 Feb 1978 DV report that Dimension Pictures had acquired domestic distribution rights for a Jul 1978 release, the 16 Feb 1978 HR announced the completion of principal photography.
According to a 12 Apr 1978 HR news item, national release was rescheduled for 19 May 1978. However, the 24 May 1978 Var stated that the film was expected to open that day in the Boston, MA, area. 23 Jun 1978 and 7 Aug 1978 HR items listed theater and drive-in openings in Atlanta, GA, St. Louis, MO, and Portland, OR, on 14 Jul 1978, 19 Jul 1978, and 16 Aug 1978, respectively.
The 12 Sep 1979 LAT review indicated that Crest Pictures released Hi-Riders on 7 Sep 1979, in Los Angeles, CA, as a double feature alongside another automobile racing picture, Swap Meet (1979, see entry). ...
