Baseball player Jim Dolan, en route to the spring training camp of the Pittsburgh Cougars, engages Benny Goldberg, a soda vendor, to represent that he is a star player who signed with another team. Jim, who is disappointing, meets Elaine, the manager's daughter, and falls in love; but as he is about to leave the camp, his grandmother arrives, takes him in hand, and proves that he is a good pitcher. Benny becomes a star player and acquires a girl friend, Cookie, a practical joker, but Mazie, a gold digger, completely turns Jim's head with flattery; he begins to disregard McGrew's orders and incurs the disfavor of the whole team; and as a result, he is suspended. At the last minute, he is called into the World Series game, and Benny is reported killed in a plane crash attempting to retrieve him; but he suddenly appears on the field and insists on catching for Jim, who hits the winning home ...
