Sylvia Langdon, living with the Arnolds, is engaged to their son, Bentley. Arthur Comstock, nephew of Arnold's partner, John Randall, is disinherited and steals his father's will. Sylvia and Arthur, while riding, are forced to seek refuge from a storm; in a struggle to repulse his advances, she knocks him unconscious with a candlestick; and, escaping, she sees the lodge in flames. Believing that she has killed Arthur, she keeps the incident secret. After the marriage of Sylvia and Bentley and the death of John Randall, she is overcome with fright at seeing Arthur at a party. Arthur is arrested for the murder of his uncle, and Sylvia is freed from her fear.
